I have to say there is something exciting about having a delivery on your front porch, especially when its a cooler of time saver meals from Retro Dinner Diva! SMAC did a review on Retro Dinner Diva when the concept first came on the scene in Columbus and I thought it would be nice to order again and do a fresh review. Ordering online was simple. The monthly menu is posted, ingredients, family size choice and any allergies or substitutions. A few clicks and days later my front porch delivery was here!
I ordered a variety of meals to try and thought Sloppy Joe Meatball sliders sounded like something that would be a hit! The meatballs and sauce were in a baggie and just needed warmed up in a sauce pot. Buns were also included. All the meals I ordered were Medium size (feeds 4-6). I would say 1-2 sliders per person. I served the sliders with a healthy option of spinach salad. Meatballs were a little large and it worked better to slice them in half then put them on the bun. This would be a great game day meal!
Casseroles. Easy peasy and my teenager can put it in the oven while I battle the rush hour drive home! Green Chile Chicken Enchilada Casserole. My family loves Mexican food so I thought this one was going to be devoured but kids didn’t like it. It was mushy they said. They wanted it rolled up in a tortilla not casserole style. They liked the flavors but not the casserole style. I liked it of course, because I only pulled it out of the oven and served it. Easy night for Mom!
OK, so the stir fry. This was the one I was worried about. First, it involves broccoli. Fine for me, but not so fine for some of the family. I wouldn’t be a Mom though if I did try to work veggies in! The Honey Lemon Chicken Stir Fry smelled so good and I even got out the wok I NEVER use! Broccoli was flash frozen, all white chicken breast meat and the sauce was in a separate container. I served this meal with white rice. I would love to say this was a surprise favorite but no one liked the flavors not even me. I decided it was not the actual meal that was bad, it was just not a meal for my family.
Crockpot! Made this one on a lazy Sunday. Savory Crockpot Cranberry Pork Roast. Kids heard the word cranberry and were immediately skeptical. Pork and Sauce were in a baggie, I dumped it all into the crockpot. When the pork was done I microwaved some ready made mashed potatoes and poured a glass of wine. This meal smelled divine. The pork was so tender. Kids took a bite and well…seconds and clean plates all around for this one!
Kids and I liked three out of four meals. What I liked most of all was that Mom didn’t have to think about what to make or spend time standing at the stove. Retro Dinner Diva did most of the work and I enjoyed my evening more. I will order again and it’s like anything, take a chance and see what you like then you will know!
