I just had to try Blue Apron after I visited a friend in Bluffton, SC for a weekend and she made an amazing meal from a delivery from a box! My friend shared a link from her account with me which gave me a free trial meal with no obligation. Great way to see what you think and if you would want to keep the deliveries coming. I of course had to take into consideration that the meal I picked would also be feeding two kids who are NOT super picky eaters but are still kids. I decided to pick the Lamb Burger and Eggplant Fries. I think my biggest concern was the eggplant. I like eggplant but I never make anything with eggplant but hey it would be in “fries” form!
The box arrived to the front porch on a Friday and we were all set for our Friday dinner……except Mom is way lazy on a Friday night so we made it Saturday! Unpacking the box was a breeze and the recipe cards with pictures and instructions were all outlined for you to use. If I had to take a guess at the level of difficulty it would be medium. I did not feel this was beginner level cooking! The most time consuming part was the prepping of the ingredients. Slicing all those peppers and the eggplant took a while. The lamb burgers were the easiest to prepare and I used a grill pan on the stove top. The house smelled amazing between the lamb and the peppers. Eggplant fries go into the oven once coated in the bread crumbs and bake. The fries did not crisp up quite enough but the flavor was good and just like I thought….my kids refused to eat the eggplant!
After our experience I logged back onto Blue Apron to see what other meal options they had that we could try and nothing stood out so I did not continue deliveries. Personally I think its a great idea to have it delivered and if you want to explore cooking unique recipes. Be prepared that these are higher than beginner level if you should give this a try!
