When I think of Christmas, I always think of The Nutcracker story! It’s been a few years since I’ve seen The Nutcracker and I was excited when we were invited to the “Nutcracker Storytime” event at the Ballet Met in downtown Columbus.
Many parents with kids attended this limited seating event. The basic elements of the story were discussed and then the kid audience participated in various dance moves that correlated with the story. (It was a great way to let the kids get their energy out!)
Clara, Chinese doll, Arabian night dancers (my favorite!) and Sugar Plum fairies (and more!) all did short performance dances for us! It was great to see the characters up close and personal. (I can’t even imagine how much work it takes to dance on your toes!)
At the end, we got a chance to take pictures with the props that they use on the stage for “The Nutcracker.” My daughter and I are looking forward to seeing it at the Ohio Theatre in December. Since she was so little when she saw it and is a dancer herself I think that she will appreciate more now that she’s older!
Are you taking your kids to the “The Nutcracker”this season?
