As moms, most of us want to get in shape but it’s so hard to find the time between juggling work and family. (Yes, being a stay at home mom is work too!). For 2 months of not being able to find the time to workout on a consistent basis, I just stopped working out. Then, I found myself having no energy and unable to fall asleep without tossing and turning all night!
Then, my friend Heather said that she had recently joined 9 Round kickboxing in Westerville. She said that the workout was only 30 minutes, 3 minutes at each stations with a 30 second activity between the 9 stations. (Hence the name, 9 Round!) Even better: there are no set class times; you can jump onto a station every 3 minutes. I took the free class, (it’s a modified version of the 9 stations) it consisted of jump rope, jumping jacks, mountain climbers and using boxing gloves against punching bags at different stations. At the end, I felt great and signed up for a 2 month membership! That next day I went back to do the full 9 rounds and I was….sore! (The kind of sore that you from getting up and down from a sitting position!)
I went a total of 3 times that week, 4 the next and 3 the following week. At every station is written the workout you are do for 3 minutes. (Punches, kicks, burpees, etc.) There is also a personal trainer that comes to every station to make sure you know what exercises you need to do at that station. Don’t think you will be sweaty in that time period? Think again! You will be sweaty in a matter of minutes! From, wall taps, jumping planks, wall sits, etc., the exercises change DAILY! Meaning that you will never be bored! (My goal is to be able to hit that punching bag just like those boxers do with the greatest of ease; it’s not easy..) Want to do more than 30 minutes? I have seen some people do the 9 Round stations twice. I have also requested to do the punching pads with a trainer; try doing a sit up and punch both boxing pads as you sit up before you go back down; do that repeatedly and tell me how you feel afterwards. Finally, they also offer memberships for kids too; my daughter went with me once to try it out once too.
After my 2nd week, I did sign up for the 6 month package because this was something I thought I could do 3 times a week. There is a initial fee which includes hand wraps, boxing gloves and a key fob for check in. There are a variety of monthly plans for you to choose and your first class is always free! If you are looking to get in shape with a small time commitment, give 9 Round a try!
