Friday night! Zip home and load up the car and head north out of Columbus to Marblehead, Ohio together for a #LakeErieLove Couples Weekend! We arrived at the Red Fern Inn just after dark and the historic school building that is now an Inn and Winery was shining and waiting for our arrival.
We headed upstairs to the Inn and found the Johnson’s Island Room. Our room was actually a suite with a fully equipped kitchen. The Red Fern Inn does not offer food to their guests…but I had no plans to cook on my couples weekend. No kids =no cooking! The first floor of the building was the Rocky Point Winery which was closed when we arrived. Lucky for us there was a complimentary bottle of wine chilled in the room for us to enjoy.
We enjoyed a restful sleep, but did not sleep in too late. The next morning we headed to Catawba to catch the Miller’s Ferry Line over to Put-In-Bay. I had a first timer to Put-In-Bay with me and he was very excited to head over and feel the island groove and celebrate #HalfWaytoStPattysDay. While waiting for the parade to begin, we enjoyed breakfast at Frosty’s, then a tour around the Island on the tour train. The tour took us by Heineman’s Winery where you can enjoy samples of a many sweet wines. After that it was off to Hooligan’s for some Kiss Me I’m A Buckeye fun with my t-shirt courtesy of Clothe Ohio!
Island time was ending and we took in the gorgeous sunset on the Miller’s Ferry and returned back to the Red Fern Inn. Back at the Inn, the winery was still open and they provided us a complimentary glass of wine and started a fire for us to enjoy the warm fall air. Simply serene. It was like a dream!
We slept in and then took at 20 minute walk to the Marblehead Lighthouse. What a great park where you climb rocks right over to the waves of Lake Erie and peer up at the historic lighthouse. Tours had ended for the season but we enjoyed looking out at the lake in each other’s arms. Very romantic.
We said goodbye to Marblehead and stopped at the Liberty Aviation Museum on way back to Columbus. My sweetie loves history so this stop was just for him. Although I must say I enjoyed engaging in his inner geek as he explained all about the aircrafts and many military vehicles. SO CUTE 😉
I hope you all experience some #LakeErieLove and visit the Marblehead area. The Couples Weekend was a success! Lake Erie Shores and Islands makes it very easy to plan your own getaway.
Full Disclosure: Social Moms Around Columbus was hosted for the weekend by Lake Erie Shores and Islands members. As always, all opinions are our own!
